APIC Sierra Chapter Mission Statement

*  To provide resources, networking and educational opportunities for Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners in Northern California and Nevada.

*  To assist Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners in remaining current in issues, practices, and guidelines of infection prevention and control.

*  To assist Infection Prevention and Control Practitioners, from various healthcare settings, in meeting infection control standards set by JCAHO and State and Federal Regulatory agencies.

*  To encourage member participation in chapter activities.

*  To support the mission of the California APIC Coordinating Council (CACC) through participation in various activities.

*  To function as a resource for legislative and governmental issues affecting infection prevention and control across the continuum.

APIC Sierra 2011 Goals

APIC will emphasize prevention and promote zero tolerance for healthcare-associated infections and other adverse events.

To support the implementation of interventions and strategies to reduce the occurrence of healthcare-associated infections through education and collaboration of APIC Sierra members.

Explore technology to network meetings with members in remote healthcare facilities.

APIC will ensure that appropriate standards and measures are set by which infection prevention and control programs are evaluated by regulatory agencies, healthcare executives, payers and consumers.

To assist Infection Control Preventionists and Healthcare Administrators by providing the necessary information in order comply with the requirements of California Legislation.

Infection prevention and control will be recognized as a separate and distinct profession, whose members are positioned for leadership roles in healthcare.

To promote CIC and recertification through educational presentations and study groups.

Increase CIC by 10% or 3 people.

APIC will serve as a catalyst for leading edge research for the prevention of infection and associated adverse outcomes.

To contribute to the APIC Research Foundation.

APIC will play a leadership role in emergency preparedness related to infection prevention and control, including emerging and reemerging diseases, bioterrorism, natural disasters and other issues.

To participate/collaborate with various work groups and planning teams relative to Emergency Preparedness.

To collect information and share information regarding the efforts of emergency preparedness workgroups/teams.
